Head of the National Security Council: Israel made mistakes in the Hamas attack
Tsahi Anegbi, in particular, admitted that he was wrong when, shortly before the attack, he said that Hamas had been weakened after previous military operations in the Gaza Strip
The head of the National Security Council of Israel, Tsahi Anegbi, admitted that huge mistakes were made in ensuring the security of the country, his words are quoted by The Times of Israel.
According to Anegbi, he was clearly mistaken when he said just two weeks ago that Hamas had been weakened after previous IDF military operations in the Gaza Strip.
"This, of course, is my mistake, and it shows the mistake of all other similar bodies for many years," the head of the National Security Council said.
The security forces were aware of signs of an impending attack a few hours before the Hamas attack on the country, but the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Shabak (General Security Service) did not attach due importance to this, Anegbi pointed out.
Earlier, the chief of the General Staff of the Israeli army, Herzi Halevi, also admitted that the military failed to ensure the security of the country on October 7, when it was attacked by Hamas units. The New York Times newspaper, citing four senior Israeli security officials, wrote that the invasion of the Palestinian group's forces into the country was made possible due to weaknesses in its security system, in particular, due to the inability of intelligence to control key communication channels used by Hamas and excessive dependence on border surveillance equipment, which the Hamas detachments managed to shut down.
Israel went into a state of war after Hamas attacked its territory, the group's detachments invaded border areas in the south of the country and took hostages. Similar to what happened on October 7 has not happened to the Jewish people since 1945, Defense Minister Yoav Galant said. In particular, he said that he visited Kibbutz Beeri, which was built by Holocaust survivors, and saw the bodies of those burned alive in the houses. "The children were tied up and shot in the head, our soldiers were beheaded," Galant said. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised to destroy Hamas.
