Lavrov said there was no evidence of the use of Iranian drones in Ukraine
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said there was no evidence that Russia was using Iranian-made drones during the fighting in Ukraine. He said this at a press conference following the results of the work at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
This is how he commented on the words of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at a meeting of the UN Security Council that Russia uses Iranian drones to attack Ukraine. According to him, Moscow purchased these drones from Tehran "in violation of Security Council resolution 2231."
Lavrov, in turn, replied that such statements by foreign figures "have no basis in any facts." "The Iranians have commented on these drones many times and asked: show at least one drone that will prove that it is ours. Therefore, I cannot comment on such statements," said the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry (quoted by TASS).
The authorities of Ukraine and Western countries have repeatedly accused Russia and Iran of supplying drones for use on the battlefield since last summer. The United States, members of the European Union and other Western countries have imposed sanctions against manufacturers of Iranian drones — in particular, Shahed Aviation Industries, which produces Shahed drones. The Russian side denies buying drones from Iran.
Both the Russian and Iranian sides have denied information about the transfer of drones for their use in the conflict in Ukraine. However, Tehran admitted that it had supplied drones to Moscow before it began.
