North Korea has launched several cruise missiles in the direction of the Yellow Sea

North Korea has fired several cruise missiles in the direction of the Yellow Sea, the South Korean Yonhap news agency reports, citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The launch took place around September 2 at about 4:00 a.m. local time (September 1, 22:00 Moscow time). Yonhap did not specify the number of missiles and their type.

However, the agency noted that the missile launches occurred a few days after the end of the military exercises of South Korea and the United States Ulchi Freedom Shield ("Ulchi Freedom Shield"), which lasted 11 days. Squadrons of B-1B strategic bombers and fighters participated in the exercises.

Pyongyang then considered the conduct of such exercises a threat. "The current exercises, conducted in the midst of the adventurous aggressive military exercises "Ilzhi Freedom Shield", clearly proceed from the intention to launch a nuclear preemptive strike against the DPRK, which is a serious threat to us," the General Staff of the Korean People's Army said on August 30 (quoted by KCNA).

In response, the DPRK conducted tactical nuclear strike exercises on the night of August 30, simulating the destruction of command posts and airfields on the territory of South Korea. The North Korean military launched two tactical ballistic missiles in a northeasterly direction, they exploded in the air at an altitude of 400 m above the conditional target.
